Andrew J. McClellan, MD, joined Texas Retina Associates in 2017, after completing his retina fellowship and ophthalmology residency training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, the top-rated eye hospital in the country.
A Texas native, Dr. McClellan specializes in vitreoretinal surgery at Texas Retina and cares for patients in our Fort Worth, Mansfield and Wichita Falls offices.
Why did you choose to become a retina specialist? What do you enjoy most about your work?
The surgeon in me enjoys how, more often than not, an intervention or treatment can be offered immediately to help a patient. The internist in me appreciates the connection between retinal diseases and systemic conditions as I enjoy being able to positively impact a patient’s overall health through caring for the health of their eyes.
What brought you to Fort Worth and Texas Retina Associates?
After six years in Florida, I was homesick for Texas.
What is your approach to patient care?
I believe in treating every patient as I would a friend, family member or myself.
What do you enjoy most outside of work?
In my spare time, I enjoy taking on do-it-myself home improvement projects and collecting vinyl records.
