This past weekend, Texas Retina Associates’ Ashkan M. Abbey, MD, presented at the 38th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the largest retinal organization in the world with over 3,000 members in all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 63 countries.
Dr. Abbey spoke on “Sutureless Intrascleral Fixation of Intraocular Lenses: Clinical Outcomes and Comparative Effectiveness of Haptic Flanging in a Series of 488 Eyes.” Highlights of his presentation included:
- Postoperative intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation in eyes undergoing sutureless intrascleral fixation is most likely to occur after repositioning of a previously dislocated IOL.
- Flanging of the haptic tips significantly reduces the risk of IOL dislocation.
- Intraoperative peripheral iridotomies significantly reduce the risk of postoperative reverse pupillary block.
Dr. Abbey cares for patients in our Dallas Main and Rockwall offices.
