About 2,000 workers sustain job-related eye injuries each day according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Did you know that 90% of these injuries could have been avoided by wearing proper eye protection?
March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month, and at Texas Retina Associates, we want to remind you to wear safety glasses any time that you are doing something that could cause an object or substance to fly into your eye. This includes working on construction projects, using power tools, and working with chemicals and cleaners.
An injury that penetrates the eye can cause severe problems, including retinal detachment, infection and vision loss. If you sustain any kind of eye injury, even if you think it is minor, see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible to help protect your vision.
