Texas Retina’s Nikisha Kothari, MD, recently interviewed one of the 2025 Vit-Buckle Society Meeting presenters about a challenging case for Eyetube. She talked with Andrew Tsai, MD, an adult and pediatric retinal specialist at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), about how he handled a macular hole formation during vitrectomy in an eye with myopic foveoschisis. Eyetube was created by a panel of expert surgeons to educate ophthalmologists around the world through online video sharing.
A macular hole is a small gap that develops in the macula, the central part of the retina, which is responsible for sharp, central vision. Myopic foveoschisis is a sight-threatening complication that can occur in patients with a high degree of myopia (nearsightedness). It is the splitting or separating of the retinal layers in the macula, causing accumulation of intraretinal and subretinal fluid, and can proceed to development of a full-blown macular hole.

About The Vit-Buckle Society
Founded in 2005 as a non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to enhancing retina education, The Vit-Buckle Society provides an open forum that mentors developing vitreoretinal surgeons, nurtures innovative surgical technologies and therapeutic approaches for retinal diseases and fosters best practices.
At the 2025 Vit-Buckle Society Meeting, Dr. Kothari served on a medical retina panel that reviewed rare retinal conditions, ranging from medication related toxicity and genetic disorders to infectious diseases. She also gave an educational talk to the residents and fellows at the meeting and currently serves on The Vit-Buckle Society’s executive board.
